Pet Hair Matting in a Brookdale Home with Three Shedding Dogs
The HVAC tech had already replaced a failed blower motor and warned the homeowner the new one wouldn’t last if the return side stayed choked. Our scope camera showed a solid mat of golden retriever and Labrador hair compressed against the evaporator coil like felt. The mat was 4 inches thick at the narrowest point and had reduced effective airflow by roughly 40%. The post-cleaning photo showed the coil fins visible for the first time in years. Mold Staining in a River Run Townhouse After a Humid Summer
The homeowner noticed a musty smell whenever the AC ran, strongest in the master bedroom. Our inspection found dark organic staining on the interior of the flex duct (the insulated, flexible tubing common in townhome builds) serving that room, concentrated where the duct sagged and held condensation. Our scope showed a solid lint plug 12 feet up, just below a damaged section of flex transition where the previous owner had kinked it against the wall. Dryer vent fires peak in winter when lint gets compacted by moisture and the heating element runs hotter. We extracted the plug with Nikro rotary tools and replaced the damaged transition with rigid metal per Illinois fire code. The post-cleaning airflow reading hit 1,200 FPM (feet per minute), up from 180. The photo record included the lint plug, the damaged transition, and the new installation. Cycle time dropped to 42 minutes.
